SITE NAVIGATION
Welcome aboard the virtual sailing vessel of Virtual Voyages, our web site. Some or you may have already joined us on the water aboard one of our real sailboats and others may have visited our web site before. You may have met us at a boat show or festival or in a classroom. But for those of you just joining us, here's an introduction to what Virtual Voyages is.

We take kids on boats. Most of the kids we sail with live in or near port cities. We are based in New London, Connecticut. Our summer program, Friends Afloat, introduces young sailors to the boat, the water, and coastal navigation. Our spring and fall program, School Afloat, sails with kids and connects sailing topics to school curriculum in upper elementary school, middle school and high school. Our Sea-Legs program, a Virtual Voyages' collaboration with Tom Lacey, matches Cadets (kids) with an adult mentor. Cadets sail every week (except in the winter) and climb up through the ranks from Deckhand to Navigator. We invite you to see what Sea-Legs offers:

From time to time we make long voyages and keep a real time log of these voyages on our web site. We offer a variety of maritime challenges to our students both on the water and on the web.

This site is designed to help people join us on the water, learn about sailing and participate, too, through interaction right here on this site.

Bon Voyage!

The section [join the crew] tells students, teachers and parents how to get aboard one of our boats for sailing fun and learning.

Our [sailing skills] section allows you to learn or review the basics of sailing right here online. You'll learn how to tie knots, work with a chart and compass, and sail on the water. There's even a test at the end to check your progress.

In our [discussion zone], visitors are invited to join forums on a variety of topics Contribute on topics such as tidal changes, historic boats, and underwater life; post your own sailing tips and recommend books; or simply read what others have to say.

In the section [long voyages], we tell you all about the on-the-water voyages we take each year. You can see maps of our routes and pictures kids took along the way. You can read about the cities we visited. You can also read the ship's log for information on current and past voyages or join a naviagation contest.
